G-Men Finish Pre-Season 4-0

The Giants took care of the New England Patriots last night 31-23 with their starters making only cameo appearances. Next Sunday is when it all starts counting and I for one, am looking forward to Eli vs. Peyton on NBC Sunday Night's inaguaral broadcast. Only ten days to go.

Giants Roll On Defense

The Giants improved their preseason record to 3-0 Friday night by manhandling their stadium tennants the New York Jets 17-7. Both Eli Manning and Chad Pennington were inconsistent in their starts but it hardly mattered for the G-men as the defense ruled the day.

In fact, they would have had consecutive shutouts if a blocked punt return by the Jets' Darrell McClover had not been retunred for 26 yards late in the fourth quarter.

Aside from Manning Tiki Barber rushed 11 times for 60 yards in a half of work and Jeremy Shockey caught two passes for 30 yards.

But defense was the name of the game for the Giants. They allowed only 184 total yards and only nine first downs with two picks and five sacks. With the way the Giants' defense is shaping up if Eli can run this very, very good offense, this could be a very special year for the G-men.

G Men face off against the Jets tonight

Tonight the Giants (2-0) play their third of four preseason games. This will actually be more of a test for the Jets (1-1) than the Giants. The Giants are pretty well set all the way around and with the surprising training camp play of second year Justin Tuck at end, this year's defensive unit could be one that hasn't been seen since the likes of LT roamed the defenseive backfield. Other than that, only 16 days left until the games start counting. I can't wait!

Second year defensive end Justin Tuck has made quite an impression this training camp racking up 2 1/2 sacks in two preseason games.

Giants Shut Out Chiefs 17-0

The Giants looked sharp in their pre-season home opener tonight. Eli Manning guided the Giants to two touchdowns in the three series that he was in the game. 6:14 into the first quarter he threw a five yard TD pass to Amani Toomer and he handed off to Brandon Jacobs for 1 yard TD run in the second. That was it for him and for the first unit. The backups took over after that and shut out the Chiefs the rest of the way.

Manning finished up the night going 11-14 for 80 yards with the one TD. He spread the passes around hitting Toomer, Plaxico Burress and Tim Carter with two passes apiece. Tiki Barber caught a pass for nine yards and ran the ball five times for 22 yards.

Most importantly no one was injured and the entire starting offense was on the field for the first time tonight.

23 Days and Counting

While the pre-season is what it is, boooooooring. We can only hope that no one gets injured. But what everyone is looking forward to is the Eli vs. Peyton showdown on the premier of Sunday Night Football on NBC. 23 days and counting!

Preseason Action Tonight

The New York Football Giants host the Kansas City Chiefs tonight at the Meadowlands. The game will be on national TV on FOX starting at 8:00 PM EST.

One of the constant themes of the Giant's training this year has been the players grousing about head coach Tom Coughlin. The latest to sound off is Plaxico Burress. In a one on one interview he had the following to say about Coach Coughlin.

"I kind of think one of the problems we have around here is some of the coaches don't take the time to develop relationships with the players," Burress said in a one-on-one interview yesterday.

"That kind of throws us off because we don't know where they're coming from and they don't understand us. So when things go wrong, when you don't do what you intend to as a player and they jump on you, it causes the guys to second-guess themselves and doubt themselves.

"When you have a good relationship with your boss, when players have good relationships with the coaches, you want to give back more to them. It's a respect factor when you have a good relationship with somebody. You don't want to let them down."

The Giant's have a chance to have a very special year this year and they should just take Michael Strayhan's cue and just let their playing do the talking.

How Much Longer?

I usually don't put down other teams to make mine look better but in this case I will make an exception for two reasons. Number one, it involves Bill Parcells, so there is an obvious Giant connection and the Cowboys are in the Giants' Division. The second reason is that I just can't stand Terrell Owens, so screw it.

How much longer do you think Bill Parcells is going to put up with the shenanigans of T.O. riding a bike on the sidelines and not actually practicing, let alone playing? You can tell that Bill is getting a little testy (when isn't he?) when he was questioned about the T.O. situation yesterday Parcells referred to Owens as "the player". Most took that as a shot across T.O.'s bow.

I see this as a distraction for Parcells and as we all know Bill does not like distractions. Not to mention the potential friction it could cause between him and owner Jerry Jones. Jones wanted T.O., Parcells didn't.

I predict that if the Cowboys fail to make the playoffs, Bill will ride off into the sunset saying adios to Owens and Jones.

Is it Eli's Time?

Is this finally going to be Eli's year? Coming off of his very dissappointing showing in last year's playoff game, he really needs to step it up. He certainly has all the weapons that he needs, Tiki, Shockey and Plaxico the offense should score often this year. So what do you think? Is Eli ready to step it up?

Arrington will miss opener

Newly aquired Lavar Arrington won't play in the pre-season opener as he missed his third practice today with those seemingly ever present knee problems. Also of concern is the injury to RG Chris Snee and reserve RB Derrick Ward. For the latest training camp report, you can read Michael Elson's report from Giants.com.
